NFL looking into whether Raiders violated Rooney Rule

The NFL is looking into whether the Oakland Raiders violated the Rooney Rule during their hiring of Jon Gruden as head coach, a league spokesman confirmed to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche.

Last week, the FPA had no problem with how the Raiders handled it, but then Davis’ words came back to adjust the timeline, Wyche said. They want to make sure the Raiders complied … and that the interview process was parallel, meaning: If Mark Davis spent five hours talking to Jon Gruden, did he spend that much time talking to other candidates? Or was it just a sham or lip service-type of interview just to meet this qualification?

The league and the Fritz Pollard Alliance wants to make sure that the Rooney Rule is exercised in good spirit at all times.

Davis fired coach Jack Del Rio after the Raiders’ Dec. 31 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Davis told reporters he would have retained Del Rio if Gruden wasn’t available, adding that he had been pursuing the former Monday Night Football color commentator for six years.

If the NFL finds the Raiders violated the Rooney Rule, they could face a fine from the league, Wyche reported.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its final ballot for the 2018 class, which features a unique mix of old-time veterans and modern-day stars becoming eligible for the first time. A handful of the 2000s’ biggest stars are looking to get their gold jacket this year.

This year’s senior representatives are Robert Brazile and Jerry Kramer, with Bobby Beathard in the contributor category.

The Hall of Fame 2018 class will officially be announced on Feb. 3 at the NFL Honors show, the night before the Super Bowl. The enshrinement ceremony will take place in early August in Canton.

He’s productive in several areas and has done well having to play essentially as a forward in a guard-heavy rotation. It’s worth mentioning that Vick’s domestic assault situation that dates back to 2015 will lead teams to do heavy background work.

It’s hard not to notice that Mykhailiuk has been playing the best ball of his career, and while he’s a senior, he’s still just 20 years old. He looked overwhelmed at last year’s draft combine, tested and measured poorly and will have to really shoot the lights out to make it at Joe Maddon Womens Jersey the next level. I’ve never been especially high on him, but I’d venture he’ll have another chance to prove himself. As for Azubuike, he moves well for a (very) big guy, but there’s just not much to his game at this stage beyond being enormous.
