NBA Draft 2017: De’Aaron Fox wants to ‘shut LaVar Ball up’

Fellow lottery pick De’Aaron Fox has known Lonzo Ball since high school, but is perhaps most frequently linked to him ahead of the 2017 NBA Draft for Fox’s dominating effort (39 points on 13-of-20 shooting) in his Kentucky team’s NCAA Tournament win over Ball’s UCLA team this spring.

Lonzo Ball is perhaps most frequently linked to … LaVar Ball.
DeForest Buckner Limited Jersey
And only in the past months has Fox become aware of the situation. And now he apparently takes motivation not from trying to compete with Lonzo but instead trying to quiet LaVar.

James finished with just 11 points and didn’t score at all in the final 16 minutes of the game as Boston pushed back from a 21-point deficit to move the series to 2-1. Since Boston was without Isaiah Thomas due to a hip injury, the Cavaliers should have been able to keep the mojo going and dispatch the Celtics with ease.

He’s got to be aggressive, get downhill, play like he’s been playing, play confident,Smith said Monday after practice. That’s what I always think, (with) people of his stature or people like him, you’ve got to play confident the whole night and play aggressive. It’s the Eastern Conference finals. It’s not enough for him. For what he does, what he brings, it’s not enough. He knows that. We know that. Just expect him to be better in Game 4.

Adam Clendening Limited Jersey According to James, watching the Game 3 film was awful because he could see how their momentum changed in the second half.

We had opportunities, James said. It is what it is. They played a helluva game and they took it to us and we weren’t able to stop the runs that they made, the momentum that they [built]. Some of the plays that we made, some of the plays that I made, I was like, ‘What are we doing?’ or ‘What could I have done better?’ But you figure out the next game and go forward.

there aren’t really any similar to Stubhub Center

That was the tipping point, and people have been extra vigilant about avoiding window-dressing interviews, as well as coaches falling clear through the gap, as Jim Caldwell, then the offensive coordinator of the Super Bowl champion Ravens, never got a call.

The damage from that hiring whitewash continues: Only two of the eight coaches hired are still with those teams. Chip Kelly has been fired, hired and fired again since then.

That shows that, in the big picture, theres a serious glitch in the hiring process overall, one that leads to bad, premature and short-sighted decisions that affect coaches of every color.

Among the stadium options, there aren’t really any similar to Stubhub Center. The Basic Canopy Stadium would probably be the best choice, but there’s no getting around the dramatic difference in capacity regardless of which stadium type is picked.

The decision could be made instead to plan further ahead and just go with the option that looks most like the Inglewood stadium. Based on the renderings, none of the options are quite like what is being built. Given that it’ll have roof, the closest would be the Deluxe Sphere Stadium. Yet, because it’s a clear roof, going with the retractable-roof Deluxe Hybrid Stadium or open-air Deluxe Canopy Stadium may be preferred.

After settling on a stadium, then play the rest of the season, complete free agency and the draft, or sim all the way ahead to the start of the 2017 season. Now with the start of the second year in the franchise, the Chargers are officially situated in Los Angeles and even the commentary will make mention of the move.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak likely to step down amid health concerns

Gary Kubiak’s ailing health could be getting the best of him.

The Broncos head coach will likely be stepping down as his family grows more concerned about his well-being, ESPN reported Sunday.

The response is understandable, given Ryans track record as an NFL defensive coordinator. He most recently served as DC of the Bills under his brother Rex before both were fired Dec. 27.

Limited Womens Nick Bjugstad Jersey Observers outside of D.C. hypothesize that the rest of the NFC East must be hoping Ryan gets the job.

James Kratch, who covers the Giants for the Star-Ledger, writes of the Redskins giving Ryan an interview, It’s a move that many will see as desperate, considering Ryan’s less-than-stellar track record as a coordinator, and should be met with crossed fingers in East Rutherford, Dallas and Philly.

The Redskins have considered several candidates to replace Joe Barry, fired after their season ended with a Week 17 loss to the Giants. While former Jaguars coach Gus Bradley and former Browns coach/Jets coordinator Mike Pettine got interviews, Wade Phillips decided to join new Rams coach Sean McVay’s staff rather than go for the Washington job.

That leaves Ryan, apparently, as a candidate for the gig.

Peterman has used the Senior Bowl for its ideal purpose. He has lived up to and built up his buzz. He has won over NFL teams in the interview process with his demeanor throughout the week. He has proven himself as a pro-ready quarterback.

He doesn’t have highly impressive arm talent, and his college film doesn’t scream top-three round pick. But after a historically notable week of practice in terms of composure, accuracy and play progressions, Peterman has made good on his Senior Bowl hype.

Erin Andrews reveals battle with cancer

Erin Andrews has been battling cervical cancer since September, the popular NFL reporter and Dancing With the Stars host disclosed to MMQB.com.

In a lengthy interview titled The Pain You Can’t See , Andrews shares very personal stories leading up to and following her legal victory in the high-profile Peeping Tom invasion-of-privacy case.

Limited Kids Chris Watt Jersey Andrews, 38, received the cancer diagnosis a few months after the civil-trial verdict and underwent surgery in October at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Before undergoing the procedure, Andrews said she told her doctor: ‘I’m not watching any football games at home. This is [Fox’s] Super Bowl year, and I’m not missing the Super Bowl.’

She returned to work two days later in Green Bay.

‘Throughout my career, all I’ve ever wanted is to just fit in,’ Andrews said. ‘That I had this extra baggage with the scandal, I didn’t want to be any different. I felt that way about being sick too. I don’t want players or coaches to look at me differently.’

The last play: Phil Dawson ended the game with a 33-yard field goal. Then a bunch of Browns fans populated my timeline saying how they happy they were for Dawson. I did not share their enthusiasm.

Who I yelled at most: Colin Kaepernick and Michael Crabtree. They torched the Packers in the playoffs the previous season, and they did it again. I enjoyed none of it.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s 1-year-old daughter threw adorable first pitch at Mariners game

This might just be the cutest pitch ever.
Kids Aroldis Chapman Jersey
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s 1-year-old daughter Luna threw the first pitch at Safeco Field before the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins game on Tuesday.

His dad, Bobby Bonds, was a star for the Giants in the 1970s, but Barry opted to play for Arizona State because, according to this report , the Giants offered $70,000 instead of meeting the asking price of $75,000. Sheesh. Instead, he played at ASU, then was drafted by the Pirates and helped that club to three playoff appearances (winning two NL MVPs) before eventually joining the Giants as a free agent in 1993.

Kids Alexei Kovalev Jersey Before he was on the NFL’s radar, Jordan was a star baseball player at Milford Mill Academy in Baltimore, and Cleveland wanted him in its organization. His parents, though, insisted that he should go to college first , and that worked out pretty well. At the University of Richmond, Jordan developed into a football star, too, and wound up with a successful dual-sport career (he was a first-round pick of the Cardinals in the 1988 MLB Draft and played parts of three seasons for the Falcons in the NFL). Side note: Jordan wasn’t the only two-sport star drafted in the 20th round of the 1985 draft; six picks after Cleveland drafted Jordan, the Angels drafted Bo Jackson (who didn’t sign). Crazy.

Few players have a more convoluted draft history than Seaver. You can read all about his three-team eligible/ineligible issues involving the 1966 draft here , but we’re going to look at the 1965 draft, when the Dodgers picked him in the 10th round out of USC. He reportedly wanted $70,000 but the Dodgers balked at that price. The scout who said he wasn’t worth that? Tommy Lasorda . Yep.

With Antonio Brown deal, Steelers chose to dance with a star, shrug off ‘distraction’

The news broke late Monday afternoon about Antonio Brown’s new contract extension with the Steelers, and social media was immediately flooded with images of him twerking. This one, for example.

No one has earned the right to an excessive celebration more than Brown. Not after the year he has had.

Never mind all the catches, touchdowns, game-breaking plays, the third straight first-team All-NFL selection and the Steelers’ trip to the AFC championship game.

It’s the constant noise about the distraction his end-zone celebrations had become. How the flags were endangering his team on the field. How winning “Dancing With The Stars” might mean more to him than winning a ring. And how his Facebook Live show meant he was selfish, immature, unintelligent, violated the franchise’s trust and the sanctity of the locker room, and was becoming less and less worth the trouble.

Amazing what the space of a few months, and of the approach of a deadline and a sudden confrontation with reality, can all make a distraction disappear.

As great as any player can be, if he lasted longer than Davis did, the only thing that should get credit for it is luck. To go a generation back, no running back left as permanent an impression as Bo Jackson. He’s never going to get into Canton. He wasn’t lucky enough to play long enough.

To go to Davis’ era itself, Sterling Sharpe is getting overlooked almost the exact same way.

Tom Brady is planning for his 18th season. He’s lucky. He didn’t dodge all the bullets, either, let’s not forget.

Neither did Peyton Manning. Or Adrian Peterson. Or Rob Gronkowski. Or Earl Thomas. Or Jamaal Charles.

Cam Newton hilariously takes over a pee-wee football game in Buick’s Super Bowl ad

Buick has released its Super Bowl commercial, Not So Pee Wee Football, starring Cam Newton and supermodel Miranda Kerr.

The ad starts with a group of children who are playing a fun football game, while their parents watch from the bleachers.

But Miller, whose instrumental defensive performance in the Broncos’ win over the Panthers saw him named Super Bowl 50 MVP, is backing Ryan to deliver Sunday.

I think Matt Ryan is going to be the Super Bowl MVP. I think it’s his time. He could be the MVP of the National Football League and he’ll win the Super Bowl MVP, Miller told Omnisport.

Will Fuller Elite Jersey I’m calling it right here. We’re talking about those two guys [Tom Brady and Peyton Manning] being the GOAT [greatest of all time]. But Matt Ryan, he has a very special game as well.

Manning, who retired after winning Super Bowl 50, remains Miller’s favorite quarterback. However, he believes Brady is the best to play the position.

He’s the GOAT [Tom Brady]. He’s the GOAT. You know, me and my opinion I feel like Peyton Manning is my personal favorite quarterback, Miller added. But Tom Brady is definitely the GOAT. After overcoming so many trials and tribulations and so much adversity and is still able to play at an elite level.

Clayton Kershaw struggles, but Dodgers still complete sweep of Cubs

Robert Horry Authentic Jersey The Cubs rocked Clayton Kershaw for three home runs on Sunday, chasing him after just four-plus innings.

It wasn’t enough to avoid a sweep.

The Dodgers hit four homers in a 9-4 victory to complete a sweep of the defending World Series champions.

After playing 14 innings at Minnesota’s Target Field, Rays third baseman Evan Longoria decided enough was enough. Longoria led off the top of the 15th inning with a solo shot to left

But Springer isn’t the only Astros slugger starting to find his groove. Third baseman Alex Bregman looked like a guy who needed a stint in Triple-A for most of the season, but he too has discovered a recent power surge.

The 23-year-old slugger has collected six hits with three home runs and six RBIs in his last three games. He now has five home runs in his last 10 games after failing to hit a long ball until May 14.

Guys like Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Marwin Gonzalez have been reliable offensive threats all season. Add Springer and Bregman back into the mix and this offense, surrounded by a number of other intriguing pieces, will be hard to slow down.
Limited Jesse James Jersey
There have already been rumors circulating around the Astros’ desired starting pitching targets before the July 31 trade deadline. Guys like Yu Darvish, Chris Archer and Gerrit Cole have headlined the list, but even securing a solid No. 3 or 4 option would vastly improve this team’s postseason prospects.

What would the NFL look like if it used the NBA draft lottery?

The 2017 NBA draft is still a month away, but the first 14 picks in the draft order will be decided Tuesday with a lottery to determine which team will own the No. 1 pick. Unlike the NFL, losing the most games in the NBA doesn’t guarantee the first selection, just the best chance at getting it.

For the Cleveland Browns — a team that finished the 2016 season 1-15 — the NFL’s system meant a secured opportunity to select Myles Garrett with the top pick. But what if the NFL adopted the lottery system that both the NBA and NHL use?

When I first entered the NFL, players still struggled with reporting concussions to the trainers. No matter how much you hear the phrase “you can’t/won’t lose your job to injury,” that’s just not true. Reporting a concussion could lead to job loss. However, with more education and attention paid to CTE, players have started to self report concussions to the athletic trainers. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see this change in the players.

So now we get to Gisele’s comments about Brady. There are two ways to interpret her comments — 1) Brady casually mentioned he had a headache or wasn’t feeling right, and Gisele took that as a concussion, or 2) (and I think this is more probable) Brady mentioned he wasn’t feeling right, and Gisele, who’s been in this game for awhile and most likely knows how her husband is feeling, knew it was a concussion without actually asking Tom about it.

My wife is a nurse and we spent eight years in football. She knew exactly how I was feeling, even if I didn’t tell her the absolute truth about an injury. My wife once diagnosed me with a gastrointestinal issue before the team did. So I think it’s improper to just dismiss Gisele’s comments as “she’s not a doctor.”

Healy’s rookie year was a bright spot in an otherwise frustrating season in Oakland

Limited Brandon Saad Jersey Hopefully, Schwarber stays healthy and we finally get to see what kind of numbers this guy’s capable of producing over a full season. It’s almost impossible for him to live up to the hype after he batted .412 in the World Series, but the Cubs are counting on a big season for the big lefty. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if he hits 30 homers with an on-base percentage near or above .380.
Limited Tanner Pearson Jersey
The big right-hander made 18 starts last year, but with a pretty elite crop of rookies in the NL, Taillon didn’t receive a single vote in the Rookie of the Year race despite his 3.38 ERA and outstanding 5.0 K/BB ratio. Don’t be surprised if the former No. 2 overall pick (in the 2010 draft) makes up for that slight by earning an All-Star nod in 2017.

Healy’s rookie year was a bright spot in an otherwise frustrating season in Oakland. The 6-5 right-handed hitter joined the club after the All-Star break and proceeded to hit like he’d been in the majors for years; Healy batted .305 with 13 homers and an .861 OPS in 72 games. If he keeps that up this season, maybe folks outside the Bay Area will actually notice this rising star.

I grew up a National League fan. I’ve watched pitchers flail for decades. Pitchers should work on their hitting the same way hitters work on their fielding, but that isn’t a realistic expectation.

So let’s have a simple compromise: Allow the other eight guys pick up the DH’s or pitcher’s plate appearances. That way, pitchers stay away from the batter’s box, and they aren’t replaced by players who are even more one-dimensional.
